The
courses at the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences (AIAS)
have been designed around the learner so that all of their
assumed needs are met. At the Institute the majority of class
time is spent concentrating on English as a whole and students
are encouraged to practise their English in authentic situations
to make the language as real as possible. The core text is
very topic driven, allowing the intricacies of English language
to be learnt within context. During both morning and afternoon
classes learners are encouraged to take responsibility for
their own learning. Wherever and whenever possible a learner-centred
environment will be created and the guided discovery approach
to learning will be used. All the classes at the Institute
encourage full participation in Australian life and special
festivals and events are always announced and taught if appropriate.
Intensive
General English Language Courses
The Institute provides six (6) levels of General English –
Beginner to Advanced). These are offered on a full-time, part-time
or casual basis.
Full-time
Courses
Full-time intensive courses are run over 4-5 hours per day
5 days per week. Generally coursed are offered in twelve (12)
week modules (see application form), but if you wish you can
enrol for any period from 2 – 72 weeks. Courses start
every Monday morning, this way students can start at a time
that is convenient to them and their particular circumstances.
It usually takes
approximately twelve (12) weeks to progress from one level
to the next within the General English course structures.
Part-time
Courses
Part-time courses are approximately fifteen (15) hours per
week. These types of courses are available to Australian Residents
and students with a Visitor Visa or Working Holiday Visa.
Part-time courses are not available to students holding or
wanting an Australian Student Visa
